Mid-South Task Force Meetings, Reports, & Minutes
The Mid-South study area, comprising parts of the Oakland, Douglas, and Grand Boulevard neighborhoods, is co-chaired by Bernita Gabriel-Johnson, Quad Communities Development Corporation.
upcoming MEETINGS
In 2008, the Reconnecting Neighborhoods community planning project talked to many Mid-South Side residents who said improvements like express service along Cottage Grove to the Loop, safer pedestrian crossings on Martin Luther King Drive, and weekend service on the #39 bus route would make the Mid-South neighborhood a better place. Come to the final meeting to learn how you can help turn top recommendations into reality.
Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
King Center, 4314 S. Cottage Grove Ave.

11.06.2007 - Kickoff Meeting
Participants in the first Mid South Task Force Meeting held on November 6, 2007 discussed the transit and service needs of the area and presented their thoughts to the other study area task forces and an intergovernmental advisory committee.
The Task Force listed and ranked the following issues as most important:
- The need for a Metra stop at Oakwood Blvd.
- Improving safety and decreasing loitering/trash around transit stops, especially for late night riders.
- Developing partnerships with government and transit agencies to ensure quality development along transit nodes.
- Examining Chicago’s role in funding transit; how to hold the city/state accountable.
- Addressing the fact that the community is in the middle of a good transit system with no way to access the network quickly, causing many to resort to their cars.
- Improved access to key employment clusters through the region.
- Job training initiative to increase employment and safety.
- Development of Black Metropolis Historic Area designation.
- More dependable bus service and schedule.
- Later service, better shelters and seating, and an improved weekend schedule for the 43rd St. bus.
- Advocating for a Metra & CTA joint fare agreement
- Improving retail around the green line stations.
- Implementing a locally-owned alternative transit/bus service connected to tourism.
- Bike infrastructure including bike parking and connections with other transit modes. This includes better marketing of facilities the CTA already has, such as indoor station area bike parking.
